The Morphology Teacher Guide assists 4th-6th grade teachers in teaching vocabulary supported by knowledge of morphemes (prefixes, roots, suffixes). There are vocabulary lists selected for the first nine weeks of school — after that, teachers should select vocabulary from literature, history, and science.

The lower grades have the task of laying a strong phonics foundation so that students may decode and encode with ease. The words most commonly encountered for these young students are from the Anglo Saxon, or Native English, style of spelling. However, when students are in upper elementary school, they begin to encounter many words from the Latin style of spelling. For older students to be equipped in reading and writing these borrowed words, they must know the Latin and Greek roots. Therefore, this notebook provides ample space to store the roots so that students have a quick place of reference for their meaning. In addition, there still remain the pages to sort words according to their orthography so that students are reinforcing the spelling patterns and rules learned in their younger years. They will continue to need these tools, and will be able to apply them with greater understanding as they age.
